So far we have run into Reggie Bush and Kim k. (more about them later.)
But thewadeblogs is compiling a sports film/doc. roport from Park City and Sundamce/Slamdance film festival this week similar to the one we compiled for ESPN at Tribeca a few years back.
Here are a list of the sports related documentaries/movies we plan to review and the directors I plan to cover at Sundance 2008.
1. BIGGER, STRONGER, FASTER* (Director: Christopher Bell; Screenwriters: Christopher Bell, Alexander Buono, Tamsin Rawady)—A filmmaker explores America's win-at-all-cost culture by examining his two brothers' steroids use...and his own. World Premiere
(Note: With the Mitchell report etc. this could be very topical)
2.SUGAR (Directors and Screenwriters: Anna Boden, Ryan Fleck)—Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, who last teamed up for HALF NELSON, chronicle the journey of Dominican baseball star Miguel "Sugar" Santos recruited from his native country to play in the U.S. minor leagues. World Premiere
3.SYNC OR SWIM (Director: Cheryl Furjanic and Producer: Amanda Keropian)
A splashy look at a marginal sport: U.S.A.'s top synchronized swimmers endure rigorous training and overcome unthinkable obstacles to compete for Olympic glory. In the midst of their training, they must pull together to support a teammate who attempts to recover from an unthinkable tragedy (as seen on 60 Minutes). Sync or Swim profiles hard-working athletes on a moving journey to fulfill their Olympic dreams.
4.GONZO: THE LIFE AND WORK OF DR. HUNTER S. THOMPSON (Director: Alex Gibney)—Fueled by a raging libido, Wild Turkey, and superhuman doses of drugs, Thompson was a true "free lance," goring sacred cows with impunity, hilarity, and a steel-eyed conviction for writing wrongs. Focusing on the good doctor's heyday, 1965 to 1975, the film includes clips of never-before-seen (nor heard) home movies, audiotapes, and passages from unpublished manuscripts. World Premiere
Since Mr. Thompson was king of gonzo journalism we are anxious to check this flick out.
Check back later... until then Later Rubes.
