Scott Weiland, the red-headed, leprechaun looking singer of Velvet Revolver and Stone Temple piolts, woke up the echos at Notre Dame over the weekend. Weiland performed a last minute free solo show for students and fans Friday night at ND's campus bar "Legends" (formerly known as Senior Bar to ND's elder set).
The rocker is a fan of all things Rockne as his father actually played football for the Irish. Considering the singer has six # 1's and one # 1 album to his record Scott had to be pleased seeing his Irish club climb to No.2 in the charts following their 41-17 drubbing of Penn State. PSU couldn't seem to "STP" ND's offense as they racked up 432 total yards.
It was appropro in a way as Weiland's band also broke out in 1992... which happened to be the same year of the last legendary PSU and ND match-up. And all things condsidered thewadeblogs.com thinks Weiland should have dedicated his diddy "Interstate Love Song" to a road weary Papa Joe (who hasn't beaten a ranked opponent on the road since Oct. 5, 2002) esp. given that Happy Valley is just down the road on I-80 (albeit a good 8 hour haul).
Actualy Weiland did dedicate a cover of Pink Floyd's "Wish you Were Hear" in a touching tribute to Pat Tillman who happened to be his "brother's best friend." For those who really want be in the know... check out his set list below. (we will try to post a recording / youtube of the set shortly)
01. Barbarella
02. The Man I Didn't Know
03. Killing Me Sweetly
04. Desert Skies
05. Wish You Were Here
06. Interstate Love Song
07. Beautiful Day
According to record industry sources BLABBERMOUT.NET as well as STP/VR/Weiland fan site it was the first time Weiland played his new solo songs "Killing Me Sweetly" and "Beautiful Day" live. It was also the first time he covered the MARSHALL TUCKER BAND track "Desert Skies".
