As Argentina takes on the Netherlands in a what might be a preview of the finals... we can't help but look back to June 22, 1986... to another battle between heavyweights... Argentina vs. England...
Twenty years ago it was the shot heard around the world... Mardona's controversial "Hand of God" goal. But what many people forget is that Maradona's second and decisive goal in that game, one in which the speedy Argentinean wove through half of England's team all the way from midfield, is still considered the "Goal of the Century" as voted by fans via FIFA last World Cup.
In order to celebrate the infamous "Hand of God" goal as well as the "Goal of the Century" we at theWade Blogs recreated the goals using our trusty (or should we say dusty old) Nintendo game system. Much to the chagrin of our girlfriend, it took us over a week to beat the computer and to get everything just right (match the players movements, the audio, etc.) but check out our near perfect recreation using the 1988 classic GOAL! soccer game (compare it to the realtime clips of the goals below).
Our version of "Goal of the Century" -- this one is really close when you compare it to the real realtime clip. (Note: our blog's layout might cut off the video... click here to see our version in full view and share it with your friends.)
"Goal of the Century" realtime
"Hand of God" Goal -- this one is sort of close to the real deal but I did create a cool effect not in the game itself as I added a slow mo graphic of a ball touching Maradona's hand. Inicidently it is good to see that Maradona hasn't lost a step and given up his speedy, weaving ways as he was just cited for a speeding ticket while trying to catch his undefeated Argentinean team over in Germany (read how Maradona got a ticketed on the no speed limit Autobahn).
Note: Given that the World Cup is heading into the ever exciting second round and due to our recreated clips popularity we plan to recreate some clips involving 2006 World Cup goals (again using the 1988 classic game GOAL!) We will probably start with recreating Team USA's goals against Italy and Ghana but are open to some suggestions. Comment below and let us know what matches and goals you want to see replayed.
