Eva(n) Longoria gets Picked Up
Arguably the best position player in the draft Tampa Bay took Long Beach State third
baseman Evan Longoria third in the baseball draft yesterday.
Although they share a last name and both wear the tag Beach/Bitch, Evan and Eva are unrelated. Nonetheless the Devil Rays had some fun yesterday in announcing their top pick as they handed out Eva Longoria's bio alongside Evan's.
"It's fun," Evan noted. "I deal with it the way I know how to. It's probably going to be there for a while."
As it turns out the Devil Rays are looking to get to second base with Longoria. Tampa Bay has the 6-2, 215 co-Big West Player of Year who hit .353 with 11 HRs and 43 RBIs for the 49ers penciled in as a 3B-2B combo.
In related draft news the Chicago Cubs look like they might be trying to exorcise the ghost of Steve Bartman (a Notre Dame alum) by picking up another domer... pitcher Jeff Samardzija, who is also a star WR on the Fighting Irish football team. Speaking of Fighting Irish read up on Samardzija's teammate who is also pulling double duty... in this case as a boxer.
