THE WADE BLOGS | Sweating It... Bonds 'Say No To Drugs' armband
With 2 weeks to go until the dubious book debut of Game of Shadows... more and more skeletons are coming out of Barry's closet. Just a week after a cross-dressing stint in which Barry resembled Star Jones, Bonds' choice of apparel is yet again turning heads.
Move over Steve Bartman's black rimmed nerd glasses, Vince Coleman's fireworks, Len Bias' coke
straw (ok so that's not real), Ted Williams' unauthorized but signed "Champ" condoms, and the Seattle Seahawk Mystery Rock, the Barry "Say No to Drugs" sweat band has got to
be one of the most coveted pieces of iconic/ironic sports
memoribilla in recent years.
The auction's description states that the 11 1/2 inch wristband was worn by Bonds himself (maybe that explains why the threads are coming out... because of Barry's growing biceps). However in doing some research we believe this Pirate premium was given out to junior stadium goers as part of an anti-drug campaign in 1987 (which would have been the year after Barry's rookie season and Bias' untimely demise). In our opinion the embroidered and mustachioed rendering looks more like journeyman Jeffrey Leonard (who happened to be a Giant in 87) than Barry.

If you like that wristband, check out this brand No Mas. They make great shirts about fallen sports stars. The Strawberry "Say No To Drugs" shirt is the hot seller.

No Mas is now the proud owner of that Bonds game worn wristband. We had to bankrupt ourselves to get it, but we have absolutely no regrets. You can see Barry's real sweat and dirt and smell the actual game worn hypocrisy.
Two weeks until the t-shirt drops. Don't sleep.
Love,
No Mas
